Privacy policy

What we collect, why, who sees it, and how to have it removed.

Who we are

SpeedSeason is a small Canadian retailer of Chinese racing shoes, run by two people. We are the ones responsible for the personal information described here, and we are the ones who answer when you ask about it.

What we collect, and when

When you buy: your email address, and — collected by Stripe on their own checkout page — your name, shipping address, billing address and phone number. We also record what you ordered, in what size and colour, and what you paid.

When you write to us: your name, email address, and whatever you put in the message.

If you create an account: your name, email address and a password, which is stored only as a cryptographic hash and cannot be read back by us or anyone else.

If you tick the newsletter box: your email address, kept separately so it can be removed without touching your order history.

We do not run advertising trackers, we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, and we do not build profiles of you across other websites.

What we never see

Card numbers. Payment is handled entirely by Stripe on their own domain — your card details are never sent to this website and never stored by us. We see only that a payment succeeded, the amount, and the last four digits Stripe shows us.

Why we hold it

To take your order, buy the shoes from the supplier, get them to your address, and answer you if something goes wrong. That is the whole of it.

Newsletter emails are sent only if you asked for them, and every one carries a way to stop them.

Who it is shared with

Your shipping address goes to the supplier who ships your shoes, which for most orders is a seller in China. There is no way to deliver a parcel without giving somebody the address it is going to, and we would rather say so directly than leave you to work it out.

Stripe processes payments. Our email provider delivers mail. Vercel hosts the site and Turso hosts the database. Each of them sees only what their job requires.

We share nothing with anyone else, other than where the law requires it.

Where it is held

Our hosting and database providers operate outside Canada, and suppliers who ship your order are in China. Personal information handled in another country is subject to that country's laws, including lawful access by its authorities.

How long we keep it

Order records are kept for seven years, because tax and consumer-protection rules require a business to be able to produce them.

Messages you send us are kept while the question is open and for a reasonable period after, so we can pick up a conversation you return to.

Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Account details are kept until you ask us to close the account.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to us and we will do it — we are two people and a spreadsheet, not a support queue.

The one thing we cannot delete on request is a completed order record, for as long as the law requires us to keep it. We will say so plainly rather than quietly ignoring that part of the request.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Cookies

The site uses a cookie to keep you signed in if you have an account, and stores your basket in your own browser so it survives a refresh. Neither is used for advertising and neither follows you to other sites.
